The Lone Ranger and stupid

We had a spanish lesson tonight. Our teacher is Lenina. We learned (among other much more important but less aggravating things) that the opposite for the word listo (smart) is tonto (stupid). I can't believe we innocently watched The Lone Ranger not knowing his faithful Indian companion's name meant stupid. I am retroactively boycotting that show.

  1. hehe, I guess I didn't know tanto.

And it may depend on the country, but listo also means "ready" or "prepared". So in a conversation like this in English:

"Are you ready to go?" "Yep, I'm ready!"

    could be:

    "Listo?" "Si, listo!"

    Or even:

    "Listo?" "Listo!"

    in Spanish.
